It has been awhile since we last posted regarding harmful ingredients in many personal care products. We are picking up where we left off and letting you know why you should avoid any product that contains any part of DEA (Diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) or TEA (Triethanolamine) in the ingredients line. DEA, MEA and TEA are hormone disrupting chemicals that have been proven in numerous studies to cause cancer in laboratory animals by forming nitrosamines and nitrates when reacting to other chemicals in a product. They are generally found in any product that foams including but not limited to shampoo, facial cleanser, body wash, soap, bubble bath and even in many cosmetics.
There is ongoing research being done by the FDA (has been happening since 1979) into the danger these chemicals cause however, they still remain a large part of the personal care products industry and will continue to be until consumers make more educated decisions and or the FDA decides to put some action behind their findings. In the meantime, check your ingredients labels! You will be surprised just how many of the products you currently use contain some for of DEA, MEA or TEA.
